Dead Confederate w/ Firework Show

When: Sat., May 5 2012

Georgia’s Dead Confederate has been cranking out dynamic, guitar-driven, moody rock for several years, but they’ve twisted new sounds out of their songs with every new album. The band’s latest full-length, Sugar, earned praise for its bombast and emotive lyrics. Last year, they recorded a new collection at Chase Park Transduction Studios in their hometown of Athens. An official release is forthcoming. Meanwhile, lead singer Hardy Morris briefly stepped away from his Dead Confederate duties to write and record some solo material and tour with his Georgia pals the Futurebirds. He recorded an additional album this year in another collaboration with members of Deer Tick, the Black Lips, and Los Lobos. This summer, Hardy and his main bandmates will be back on the road in high gear. “I think these songs are kind of a culmination of all the stuff we’ve done,” Morris says of the upcoming release. “I wanted to approach this album like it was the last thing I was going to do; the last album I’d make. I knew that wasn’t the case, but that’s the mindset I held going in because I think, in some ways, that’s what people want to hear. I know that’s what I want to hear, songs that feel like it might be someone’s last breath.” Local indie-rock quartet Firework Show opens at 9 p.m.
