Decadent Divas

When: Fri., May 7, 7:30 p.m. 2010

Decadent Divas will return to Charleston for a show on Fri. May 7, as part of the North Charleston Arts Festival. The ballet was created by Jill Eathorne Bahr, Charleston Ballet Theatre’s resident choreographer, and celebrates different women as musicians and fashion icons. The ladies honored in the show range from timeless favorites, like Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand, to more modern stars, including Madonna and Mariah Carey. The show features contemporary ballet choreography to some of the most popular hits of our time, including Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” Cher’s “Bang Bang,” Nina Simone’s “Sinner Man,” and Madonna’s “Celebration.” Since the show is also meant to showcase fashion, the costumes had to be made by someone with true talent. Who better take on the task than Charleston Fashion Week Featured Designer Mary Porter? All the costumes are her own couture designs. But don’t worry if you can’t make it to this one night-only performance. It’ll be back for Piccolo Spoleto. —Caitlyn Chimento
