Dog Days of Destruction

When: Sat., July 31, 5 p.m. 2010

When the Upstate Roller Girl Evolution (URGE) took on our ladies in the Lowcountry HighRollers in June, the Greenville team was — of course — soundly defeated. Trounced. Left licking their wounds, both physical and psychological. And now URGE thinks they can come up to Charleston and beat the HighRollers on their own turf? Yeah right. Think again. The in-state rivals will duke it out at the Dog Days of Destruction. Besides watching the women duke it out, there’ll be music from Tricksy (an Atlanta-based roller derby band), a demonstration from Charleston Krav Maga (the Israeli hand-to-hand combat technique is quite possibly the only thing more badass than roller derby), and a raffle. There’s also an after-party at the Music Farm, with entertainment by Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid; the party is free with a ticket stub from the bout. Some of the proceeds will go to People Against Rape. —Susan Cohen
