Doug Stanhope

When: Fri., Aug. 10 2012

Doug Stanhope is brass, crass, and in-your-face, but don’t expect an apology for it. This Friday, the stand-up comedian will perform at the Music Farm with funny guys Carlos Valencia and Junior Stopka. Charleston is the fourth stop on Stanhope’s Big Stink comedy tour, one of 16 shows on its Southeast leg. Stanhope is promoting the recent release of his CD Before Turning the Gun on Himself, a brutally honest commentary on life. “My style, I guess it’s kind of somewhat abrasive and vulgar and usually fairly angry, with a lot of smut mixed in, usually delivered with a drunken slur,” Stanhope says. And he has equally high praise for his fellow performers. “Junior Stopka, he scares people in the industry … he’s one of those legitimately, fairly insane people. They’re both amazingly funny comics,” he adds. And if you’re brave enough to buy tickets, don’t say he didn’t warn you. “It’s kind of like animal porn. It’s not for everyone.”
