Philadelphia-based pop-rock band Dr. Dog is a symphonic-minded sextet with three vocalists and fantastic pop notions. Last year, the group released a solid album on the ANTI- label titled Shame Shame. They toured with Bright Eyes earlier this year and recently finished their next collection in a Philadelphia studio. Bassist/singer Toby Leaman believes it’s along the same melodic and rhythmic lines as Shame Shame, with a few twists. “We spent more time debating the titles and the cover than the music,” he says. “To us, it’s a different set of songs. Our ears are way more sensitive than other people’s, maybe. It’s a little more rock ’n’ roll and straight-ahead. It’s harder. A lot of it was done live, so the production isn’t as extreme.” Fans can expect a mix of old and new songs in the band’s set this week.
