There was something for everyone at the first installment of Movies in Marion Square on Friday night. Kids enjoyed the no-earmuffs-necessary, PG-rated How to Train Your Dragon, adults had refreshments from Barefoot Wine and New Belgium Brewery, and dogs found plenty of leftover food scraps discarded on the grass.
Guests filtered in to claim their spots on the lawn around 6 p.m. Food stands hawked everything from fruity frozen yogurt (FreshBerry) to Mexican delights like BBQ burritos, tacos stuffed to the brim, and cheesy quesadillas (Taco Spot). Other vendors included Ol’ South Hot Dogs, D’Allesandro’s Pizza, and T&T’s Kettle Corn.
With that early summer smell floating in the air, it felt like a huge block party — that is if your neighbor somehow managed to get their hands on a giant inflatable movie screen from Cinebarre. The Holy City Bike Co-op was in attendence collecting old bikes to recycle and also provided a bike valet that quite a few peddlers took advantage of. Local nonprofit Lowcountry Earth Force, which encourages kids to work for the environment, received aid from the event. Each week, a new organization will benefit from the event.
