Duane Allman Birthday Celebration

When: Sat., Nov. 26 2011

There’s no shortage of Allman Brothers fans on the Pour House staff. The local venue demonstrates its warm love for the classic, progressive Southern rock band throughout the year by booking former members of the group, close relatives, and various tribute events. The third annual Duane Allman Birthday Celebration celebrates the late guitarist, who was born on Nov. 20, 1946 and died in a motorcycle accident in 1971. Allman is best remembered for his fantastic slide guitar solos and improvisational approach to live performances. On Friday, the club hosts two sets from Spartanburg’s Shane Pruitt Band. They’ll play a mix of Allman Bros., Derek and the Dominoes, and a variety of other tunes. On Saturday, Pruitt’s Acoustic Gumbo plays the deck from 5-9 p.m. Georgia-based tribute band Revival headlines the main stage later that night. Comprised of vocalist/keyboardist Ron Roper, bassist Steve Sanders, drummer Preston Holcomb, and guitarists Lefty Williams and Benji Shanks, Revival consider themselves to be a group that “captures the magic of the Allman Brothers Band with a refreshing stage show.”
