When: Sun., June 10, 3 p.m. 2012
The sun and the moon. This early-music ensemble, formed in 2002, is comprised of Brazilian countertenor José Lemos, percussionist Danny Mallon, viola da gamba player Mary Anne Ballard, and Steve Rosenberg on recorder and guitar. They'll perform music from their latest album, Sol y Luna, which is packed with Spanish influences.
The chosen people. There's a major Sephardic component to their music. For all you goyim out there, Sephardi Jews lived on the Iberian peninsula. Though most were expelled, killed, or converted during the Spanish Inquisition, some of the oral traditions lived on and crept their way into Brio's recordings.
Alumni association. Lemos is a College of Charleston graduate, and Brio is a frequent Piccolo visitor.
