Concert Music

Early Music Series: Northern Lights

When: Tue., June 5, 3 p.m. 2012

Old is new again. "This is a very informal, down-to-Earth kind of performance," says Steve Rosenberg, the coordinator of Piccolo's Early Music Series. "These are young musicians, happy to chat with the audience about the music. The enthusiasm is contagious." Interpreting Baroque music authentically and placing it in the proper acoustical setting is red hot right now, according to Rosenberg, and these musicians are eager to show you why that's so.

They brought Bach up. With six unique shows — Splendors of the Baroque, Vivaldi on Fire, Bach's Violin Concertos, Baroque Banquet, Dazzling Baroque, and Venetian Carnival — lined up, you'll be able to go back night after night for more.

They've got guts. If you want an authentic early sound, you have to use authentic early materials and techniques, and these musicians do exactly that. Think natural gut as opposed to modern steel and small/intimate sound as opposed to large concert hall. So break out your bodices and petticoats and prepare for a trip back in time.
