We may have mentioned this a few times before, but in case you somehow missed it, we’ll say it again: It is hot outside. Unbearably hot. Completely miserable. You get the idea. Your only chance at beating the heat is to eat something refreshingly cold.
This weekend’s featured flavors at Paolo’s Gelato are limoncello, sugar-free strawberry, cappuccino, pistachio, and amarena (a cream and black cherry flavor).
Early Bird Diner is known for its homemade ice cream; they'll have butterscotch bacon pecan, strawberry cheesecake, ginger lemon cookie, Andy's cookies and cream, and a watermelon sorbet.
Most people go to Red Orchids for their Chinese food, but their ice cream selection rivals Ben and Jerry's or Häagen-Dazs. Choose from their extensive list: green tea, lychee, jasmine, coconut, cinnamon, ginger, black sesame, lavender, chai, chocolate cayenne, wasabi, coffee with bacon bits, tumeric saffron, and watermelon basil and honey blackberry sorbets.
After a dinner at Oak Steakhouse, try the trio of fresh sorbet. It includes lemon, raspberry, and orange flavors.
And Whole Foods Market switches out their gelato and sorbet flavors daily, made with the same ingredients you can find in their store (which are free from artificial colorings, flavorings and sweeteners, additives, preservatives, and growth hormones). This weekend, expect peanut butter, mocha almond, super citrus, pistachio, espresso, super berry, chocolate hazel nut, and other gelato. Their standout sorbet flavor is local peach, but you can also get strawberry lemonade, mixed berry, pineapple coconut, guava, and coconut-lime.
Stay cool Charleston.
