Deep in the heart of Francis Marion National Forest, this inky water trail boasts ancient cypress and tupelo trees that create a landscape that seems more Amazonian than Lowcountry. Wildflowers are blooming along the edges of the creek, the trees are flushed a bright spring green and the cypresses and tupelos are providing habitat for migratory songbirds like the citrus-hued prothonotary warbler. As an added bonus, swallow-tailed kites are often sighted soaring in the open river corridor.
