Oyster Roasts, Music, City Picks

Fall Soiree

When: Fri., Oct. 22, 7 p.m. 2010

If you’ve been anxiously anticipating this year’s SEWE fall oyster roast — well, I’ve got some good news and I’ve got some bad news. I’ll give you the bad news first: SEWE isn’t hosting a public oyster roast this October. The good news is that conservation group East Cooper Ducks Unlimited, with blessings from SEWE, is taking up the task and presenting a new and improved roast. This time around, you’ll find plenty of oysters and other delectable offerings, an open bar, a large silent auction and a smaller live one, and live music from Palmetto Soul. DU is an organization dedicated to conservation, and Area Chairman Dr. Mark F. Hartley hopes that this roast will open attendees eyes to all of the good that they do, whether in South Carolina or on a national level, like the efforts they’re making in BP oil spill-affected areas. “We’re going to save an entire migratory season this year,” he says. “You don’t hear about stuff like that on TV, but it sure is the kind of stuff that we know about that’s going on.” —Susan Cohen

Price: $40/advance, $50/door
