FIRST Robotics Fair

When: Sat., Aug. 8, 1-3 p.m. 2015

Long gone are the days when robotics teams were lame. In our opinion, robots battling it out is totally badass (BattleBots anyone?), and FIRST, or First Inspiration Recognition of Science and Technology, clearly agrees. FIRST is a non-profit organization that promotes science, engineering, technology, and math education by fostering excitement surrounding building and battling robots for students aged pre-K through high-school. Team 3489 Category Five consists of Charleston-area students who will be providing hands-on robotic-centric activities for all ages as well as showing off two of their competition robots, Hugo and Mechatrina. The activities will explore computer programming, mechanical engineering, and electricity. Vickie Larson, a mentor for Team 3489, says, “We spend time showing students and families that learning is fun. Being a part of FRC is like a varsity sport for the mind. FIRST may be the hardest fun you will ever have and provides countless opportunities for learning.”
