Head to Center Street this weekend for the second annual Folly Beach Jazz Fest featuring musicians from all over the country as well as right here in Charleston. Tony Monaco and Howard Paul, Gino Castillo, and Bobby Storm will perform along with Charleston’s own Kings of Jazz, The Mike Frost Band, and the Charleston Jazz Orchestra Ensemble. Starr Acheson, founder and director of the Folly Beach Jazz Festival, says that the fest “tries very hard to feature all jazz genres,” so you’re sure to find something that you like, if not something you didn’t know that you liked, from classic bebop to smooth jazz and jazz blues. The festival is also bringing back the tradition of having a big band perform on the Folly Pier, where bands in the ’40s would stop on their tours. This year, the Folly Jazz Festival will be offering scholarships for kids to be able to go to four different jazz camps in the summer of 2016 and the winners will be announced at the end of the festival.
