Little know fact: the twee set burn in the sun quicker than anybody else — and that includes the goths and the gingers. Which is probably part of the reason they wear so many layers of clothes even on the hottest days of summer. But if they're inclined to soak up some sun, these are a few places to shop.
Located on King Street downtown, Las Olas has been dressing Charleston for the sun since 2007. The surf shop has plenty of top-shelf brands on hand including Mikoh, Acacia, and L*Space. And if you're feelin' really frisky, you can add some flair to your day-at-the-beach look by picking up some flash tattoos.
Local designer Caroline Robinson and Erica Segerberg of St. Simons decided to start their own swimwear line after living on Maui. Taking their Southern roots into consideration, the entrepreneurs officially launched Citrine Swim at the 2013 Charleston Fashion Week. Now with retail outlets nationwide, you can try their suits on for size downtown at Channels on King Street as well as at Dwell Charleston in Mt. Pleasant.
If you like an in-store bar with your swimwear shopping spree, step on over to Mosa Boutique. In addition to mimosas, wine, and beer, you can also find one and two-piece swimsuits by Zinke, Sofia, Vix, and Gat Rimon. And don't forget to pick up a leather koozie or a pair of sunnies, too.
Looking to stand out in a sea of sunbathers this year? You're sure to snag a look no one else has if you go vintage, and no, it's not gross (ever heard of a washing machine, ya pansy?) For local vintage swimsuits, coverups, and retro sunglasses, check out Red Rose Vintage or Cavortress.
