Hearing poetry, spoken slowly or quickly, in a whisper or a shout, is pretty special. Hearing it without seeing the speaker is even more special, at least according to Blank Page Poetry creator Jerome Meadows. And that’s exactly the premise of this Saturday’s Free Verse event, which features poetic recitals, cast shadows, digitally projected words, customized sound, and choreographed dance. Free Verse founder Marcus Amaker says that afer seeing Meadows successfully host this event in both Columbia, S.C. and Savannah, Ga., he knew it was high time for Charleston to check it out. The theme for the evening’s poems is gentrification in Charleston.
