Gin and Jazz

When: Sun., Aug. 8, 7 p.m. 2010

Ah, the Roaring Twenties. Who doesn’t wish they could visit that time of excessive drinking, short dresses, secret underground bars, and the Charleston? Flashback to the Prohibition era this Sunday at Theatre Charleston’s Gin and Jazz Party at Pepper Plantation. The 1920s-themed celebration kicks off the new theater season with live jazz, signature gin cocktails, and tasty fare from Charleston’s restaurants. Musicians Charlton Singleton, Leah Suárez, and the Jazz Artists of Charleston will share the stage during the festivities. Guests can dance the night away in both the “lawn party” area and the “speakeasy” area. “Our goal is to throw a fantastic party with top-notch entertainment that everyone will enjoy. We believe we’ve created a really fun and unique event that will highlight all of our member theaters,” says Emily Wilhoit, executive director of the League of Charleston Theatres. While ’20s-era dress isn’t required, don’t miss the chance to win prizes for the best costume. All proceeds from ticket sales benefit the League of Charleston Theatres. —Kelly Smith
