Go Back to Ohio Night

When: Thu., June 24, 7:05 p.m. 2010

Everybody knows that nothing gets Lowcountry blood boiling like the sight of a Buckeye jersey in the South. The jury’s still out on how much success the Charleston RiverDogs have had in ridding the Lowcountry of Ohioans, but the team is giving it another go with their always-popular Go Back to Ohio Night. As part of the team’s “Be Your Own Fan” theme throughout the season, the Dogs gave Charlestonians a chance to vote for which city or region they would most like to send visitors back to this year. As if there was ever any doubt, Ohio easily won, and they’ll be the target for a third straight year when the RiverDogs (an affiliate of the New York Yankees) face their in-state rivals the Greenville Drive (an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox). The festivities will include South Carolina vs. Ohio contests between innings, and the RiverDogs want to see heavy turnout from Midwesterners sticking up for their state as well as their local enemies. Fans are also encouraged to represent their team of choice by sporting gear from their home state. RiverDogs management says that the best-dressed Ohioan (an oxymoron if there ever was one) will receive a free bus ticket back to the Buckeye State. —Cameron Jones
