Grape Stomping Festival

When: Sat., Aug. 28, 2-6 p.m. 2010

Remember that old Halloween game where your mom would peel the skins off a bowl of grapes and you’d touch ‘em and they’d feel like eyeballs and it freaked you out so much that you haven’t been able to touch a grape since because just the idea of it makes you wig out? Um, not like that’s one of our fears or anything — really, we promise — but if it was, we’d gladly get some immersion therapy at Irvin~House Vineyard’s Grape Stomping Festival, an annual celebration of their muscadine harvest. Organizers aren’t oblivious to the resemblance of the event to a certain classic TV show episode: A Lucy Look-A-Like Contest will let costumed fans play out the scene, with the winner taking home $50. And let’s not forget Irvin~House’s other product, Firefly Vodka. It’ll be represented when they host their On the Fly Finale ParTEA, welcoming Mt. Pleasanters David Childs and Andy Whitfield as they return from their U.S. tour on the Firefly Vodka RV. There’ll also be plenty of kid-friendly activities, food from Home Team BBQ and Zia Taqueria, live music from Taco Donkey, Supa Emcee Wenner, Reid Stone (of Guilt Ridden Troubadour), Eric Galloway and Steve Tirozzi (of the Specs), and members of Gas Light Street. And, of course, plenty of wine to go around. Remember to bring a designated driver. —Susan Cohen
