Charleston will be seeing a few more bikes later this month as the Holy City Bicycle Co-Op hosts the Bike! Bike! regional conference. The Holy City group holds bike maintenance and safety workshops and promotes the cycling culture in the Lowcountry.
The three day event begins March 25, and should include bike co-op leaders from more than 30 other organizations in the Southeast. Organizer Dan Kelley says the conference is for anyone who wants to learn more about bicycles. "It's an opportunity to learn from each other so we can be better citizens, better serve our communities, and develop a support network between cities," he says in a press release.
Local bike advocate Peter Wilborn will speak to attendees about cyclists' rights and responsibilities. Other topics include maintenance, repairs on the road, commuting, fund raising, outreach, organizing a race, and customizing. Bike! Bike! participants won't be sitting in a conference room all day. They'll have a social bike ride and a bike polo half-time show at the Lowcountry Highrollers match.
