Greg Laswell, Cary Brothers, Harper Blynn

When: Thu., July 22 2010

Greg Laswell is one of those musicians who manages to pour every heartbreak and letdown into the creation of a song. Listen to his music for just a second (try “Take Everything”) and you will suddenly understand his sadness and longing. The L.A.-based indie artist is currently touring in support of his third full-length, Take a Bow (Vanguard). Touring with Laswell is his old friend and fellow L.A. indie rocker Cary Brothers, who first gained notice in 2004 with his sweetly melodic single “Blue Eyes” (featured in the movie Garden State). Brothers released his debut full-length album, Who You Are, in 2007. Rounding out the bill is power-pop band Harper Blynn, named for songwriters Pete Harper and J. Blynn. Their energetic sound, powered by vibrant harmonies and vigorous electric keyboard playing, is the perfect cure for any melancholy feelings that may have been dredged up by Laswell’s emotionally charged music. —Kelly Smith
