Gris Galerie presents the Art of Mia Berg

When: Fri., Sept. 28, 6 p.m. 2012

We haven’t had a nudes-in-nature art event since photographer Jack Gescheidt organized the TreeSpirit group nude photo shoot at the Angel Oak back in May. But keep those clothes on — Mia Berg’s photography exhibit, What Secrets Have You Found, isn’t participatory. The only clothes-less one at the show this weekend will be Berg herself, captured in a series of nude self-portraits in natural settings. “Nude self-portraits are as honest as it gets,” says Gris Galerie’s Elizabeth Bowers. “I think that’s the perfect way to come at the depiction of the natural too. Raw honesty is the best way to blend in in a natural scene.” The pieces on display at the Music Hall explore the relationship between the human figure and the natural landscape, which in many of the photos appears totally seamless. “I’ve always jokingly said looking at her photography is like playing a game of Where’s Waldo? Where’s Mia?” says Bowers. Fans of Berg’s work should make sure to attend, as they’ll have the chance to pick up a copy of the photographer’s book, which is being issued in an extremely limited edition.
