Heal with HeARTS Kids' Drum Circle

When: Sat., Dec. 20, 4-5 p.m. 2014

When we think back to music class in elementary school, banging on drums was one of our favorite parts. And on Saturday The Heal With HeARTS Kids’ Drum Circle lets kids drum for an hour without any of that school stuff. Children between the ages of three and 18 should meet on the deck at the Pour House, and they’re encouraged to bring their own drums if they have any. Don’t worry, Heal with HeARTS has your back if you don’t: They’ll provide 20 handmade child-sized drums for the kids to borrow. Sol Driven Train’s Joel Timmons and Wes Powers will teach little drummer boys and girls beats, rhythms, and techniques from a beginner’s level to an advanced one. The event sponsor, Heal With HeARTS, is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational projects and opportunities in the visual and performing arts for children in need. “The drum circle is a wonderful component of our music program,” says Megen Mims, Heal With HeARTS program director. “It provides opportunity for the community to come together and learn a musical instrument from a professional musician.”
