Savannah-based blues cat Brett “The Hitman” Barnard and his band Hitman epitomize the cool swagger of Lowcountry-style blues-rock. Barnard’s electric guitar skills are blazing at times, and his power-trio setup is versatile and solid. The combo specializes in down-and-dirty blues, gritty rock ’n’ roll , and boogie. The rhythm section is pretty tight, too. They recently rocked this venue during Piccolo Spoleto and last winter’s Lowcountry Blues Bash. Backed by bassist/singer Maggie Evans and drummer Mark Courdrey (both of the band Silver Lining), Barnard has the proper support to wail, holler, and carry on like Muddy Waters or Jimi Hendrix on stage. Expect a solid set that’ll go down like a gutsy shot full of energy. —T. Ballard Lesemann
