Ice Storm

When: Sept. 17-Oct. 30 2010

Chances are slim that Charleston will see another snowstorm this winter, but snow bunnies can get their fix at Redux come September. Brooklyn-based multimedia artist Carson Fox will transform the gallery into a winter wonderland with her show Ice Storm. Fox creates cast resin sculptures of snowflakes, icicles, and snowdrifts. While beautiful, her works are also a meditation on transformation and death. You could say that Fox plays God, preventing icicles from melting, freezing flowers as they bloom, giving an unreal close-up view of intricate snowflakes. One installation is made up of more than 100 icicles that dangle over viewers’ heads, combining wonderment with a sense of dread. Which is kind of how the rest of the country feels when it snows. —Erica Jackson
