It takes muscle, skill, and soul to handle a big Hammond B3 organ properly. Motown veteran and keyboard master Ike Stubblefield has it all. On the heels of a gig at the Savannah Music Festival, the Atlanta-based bandleader returns to Charleston on Saturday for a fiery performance at the Tin Roof. Stubblefield started his career in 1968, playing with Motown legends and national acts. He’s recently collaborated with Quincy Jones, the Derek Trucks Band, Jeff Sipe, Jimmy Herring, Col. Bruce Hampton, Francine Reed, Steve Gadd, and Susan Tedeschi, among many others. Last year, he released a disc titled Organ & Keyboards. This week, he brings guitarist Grant Green Jr. and drummer Marcus Williams along as a tight “B3 trio.” Expect a healthy dose of muscular soul to emanate from Stubblefield’s vintage amp.
