In the Air by Lynne Riding

When: Fri., May 1, 5-8 p.m. 2015

Lynne Riding’s show In the Air will feature multi-media artwork that ranges from found objects to ink on mylar. All of these disparate pieces, though, will focus on the same theme. Inspired by locations in which she’s lived, Riding’s work evokes the breeziness of seaside landscapes. And with good reason. Riding has resided in Charleston for the past two decades, but she’s originally from Wales and she often does residencies along various coasts. Gallery owner Lese Corrigan says that In the Air is inspired by Charleston, but that it is also an accumulation of Riding’s whole history. Corrigan says that with each new show Riding has, her art grows. Riding explores space and place with her three dimensional-esque encaustic works. Encaustic, also known as hot wax painting, is created when heated wax-based paint is applied to an absorbent surface that can be polished to a sheen. This particular show will also feature a clay and seaweed found object. —Connelly Hardaway FRIDAY
