When: Aug. 22-Oct. 4 2014
For 10 years Yaakov Israel documented the landscapes and portraits of his native Israel in hopes of finding a deeper understanding of his country. The Quest for the Man on the White Donkey — a name drawn from the Jewish belief that the Messiah will return on the back of a burro — is the result of his work. With help from curator Mark Sloan, 42 of Israel’s images of the desert landscape will be included in his illuminating exhibit. In conjunction with Israel’s work, photographer Kathleen Robbins’ Into the Flatlands applies a similar approach to the Mississippi Delta, focusing on its people, culture, and region, specifically Tallahatchie County, where she grew up.
