Applications are still being accepted for the Elizabeth and Mallory Factor Prize for Southern Art. Open through Feb. 28, the competition seeks talented artists who contribute to a new understanding of the South. The winner receives a $10,000 prize administered and presented by the Gibbes Museum of Art. The prize was established in 2007 when the Factors, both strong patrons of the arts, relocated from New York to Charleston. Besides recognizing significant Southern artists, their goal is to create an archive of information about Southern artists that can be used by curators, collectors, academicians, and the public. Jeff Whetstone won the prize in 2008, and Stephen Marc won in 2009. Applicants can enter at factorprize.org.
