The second annual Rusty Cole Birthday Celebration & Jef Jel Benefit is set for action at the Pour House on Sun. Feb. 21. Live music from a handful of local talent includes The Hawkes, Po' Ridge (featuring City Paper contributor Stratton Lawrence), DJ Kurfu, James Justin Burke, Dangermuffin, Wolfbait (featuring members of Sol Driven Train), Josh Phillips, Drumz, and The Key of Q.

Music starts at 6 p.m. in El Bohio (the adjacent Cuban eatery) and continues in the El Bohio room and on the main stage through the night.

Rusty Cole, the bassist of local band Sol Driven Train, has been playing music in Charleston for eight years. Last year's birthday jam (on the club's back deck) featured bandmates and colleagues.

This year, the gig is designed to aid health, education, job development, and other efforts in the Senegalese village of Ndangane. In the area's Wolof language, "jef jel" translates to "give and take," or, "the nature of your reward equals the nature of your effort."

Folly Beach resident Al Garrett organized the Jef Jel Project five years ago (STS9 performed the last two benefit concerts).

A donation of $10 will be requested at the door. Visit jefjelproject.org and charlestonpourhouse.com for more info.
