Jim Lauderdale w/ Town Mountain, Flatt City

When: Thu., Sept. 8 2011

Jim Lauderdale might be the best dressed man in bluegrass. Any ole person can don sharp looking suits and sing into a hot mic, but it takes serious mojo to pull off sequins and embroidered flowers. Fortunately, Lauderdale’s taste for loud attire works well. Not only is he a two-time Best Bluegrass Album Grammy winner (for 2002’s Lost in the Lonesome Pines with Ralph Stanley and 2008’s The Bluegrass Diaries), but Lauderdale’s jamming buddies include Jorma Kaukonen and Donna the Buffalo, who he often tours and records with. Known well for his songwriting, Lauderdale has penned tunes for George Strait and the Dixie Chicks. His latest release, Reason and Rhyme, is a collaboration with Jerry Garcia’s iconic lyricist, Robert Hunter. But don’t go see Lauderdale for his accolades and respectable friends. Love him for his swagger, sharp fashion sense, and, most importantly, his smooth, high-quality playing and originals. Speaking of well-dressed bluegrass dudes, Lauderdale performs a solo set at 9:45 p.m. before picking along with Asheville’s rising stars Town Mountain.
