John Mariani to appear at W+F and Lucca

Esquire writer promotes new book on Italian food

Food writer John Mariani has a long and happy history with chefs in Charleston, regularly naming them to his yearly list in Esquire. Sienna, Oak, and O-Ku have all been named best new restaurant, and both Ken Vedrinski (Trattoria Lucca) and Brett McKee (17 North Roadside Kitchen) have hosted his visits here.

Mariani most recently came to town last year for a seminar at the American, where he gave restaurateurs a "glimpse into the mind of the food critic."

In March, he returns with the release of his new book How Italian Food Conquered the World. Mariani will join Vedrinski at Lucca on Wed. March 2 for a special four-course dinner and book signing. The theme, obviously, will be Italian food.

He'll stick around for Charleston Wine + Food Festival event on Saturday: the Celebrity Authors Reception, which will include a bunch of food writers, mingling and noshing on food from Muse and wine from Jed Steele.

Lucca is a pretty small place, so if you want to attend the dinner, you best be making those reservations now.
