Since his acclaimed major label debut in 2001 — Room For Squares — Mayer has earned critical praise for his musicianship and singing voice, and an enormous fan base for his smooth musical style and charm. The songwriter's fourth studio album, Battle Studies (Columbia), hits the street Tues. Nov. 17. Label publicists say the new collection "incorporates the warmth, melodies and simplicity of '70s and '80s California rock and pop ... it's a confessional, relaxed, and liberated album recorded in a private home in California where Mayer lived and worked over the course of six months before wrapping at the famed Capitol Studios in Los Angeles."
Mayer co-produced the tracks with veteran studio engineer and New York-based funk/rock drummer Steve Jordan. Mayer's web site, allows fans who pre-order Battle Studies now through Nov. 10 to access their own exclusive tour pre-sale to purchase up to 12 tickets before they're available anywhere else.
Fuse — a national music television network and a division of Madison Square Garden — plans to broadcast a CD release concert live from Manhattan's historic Beacon Theatre on Tues. Nov. 17 as well. The program, titled "Fuse Presents: John Mayer Live From the Beacon Theatre," will be broadcast overseas to U.S. troops and their families by The American Forces Network to reach those stationed in 175 countries and on 140 U.S. Navy ships at sea. The American Forces Network's Television's "Spectrum" channel will air the concert on Dec. 6 and again and on New Year's Eve.
