Comedy, City Picks

Kenny Zimlinghaus

When: Sat., Aug. 28, 10 p.m. 2010

Self proclaimed “cool guy” and former fat kid Kenny Zimlinghaus seems to enjoy coming down to Charleston from his New York City home base. Could it be the weather? Is he a secret fanatic of colonial architecture? Maybe he just needs a paycheck. But from a brief e-mail exchange, CP knows he has an obsession with the lovely ladies here, so we’re not surprised that his upcoming show is scheduled the first weekend after the College of Charleston begins its fall semester. A veteran of the Charleston Comedy Festival, a Theatre 99 favorite, and the co-host of SIRIUS’ Cosmo Radio, Zimlinghaus is always welcome and never disappoints the Charleston crowd (unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the ladies). When comparing the Holy City to his next tour stop, Cleveland, Zimlinghaus offered this feeble attempt at flattery: “If Charleston were a beautiful Persian cat, Cleveland would probably be its kitty litter.” Thanks, Kenny, but you’re going to have to do better than that. Charleston doesn’t give it up to every comedian that throws her a compliment. –Dustin J. Pitts
