The Kicken' Chicken will be hitting the road in 2010.
The successful local poultry peddler is opening its first franchise in Fayetteville, N.C. The new site will be under a new company, Kickin' Chicken International, with the help of three new partners. The five local restaurants will continue to be operated by founders Bobby Perry and Chip Roberts, along with partner David Miller.
Roberts says the restaurant has been approached for years about franchising, but put it off because of concerns about maintaining the quality of the brand. The new partnership will allow them to do that, while benefiting from the franchise experience of their new partners, including Jim Verney a former executive with Western Sizzlin'.
There will be some aesthetic changes at the new locations, some different colors and textures on the walls, but Roberts says the new restaurants will preserve what has always worked: the unique concept, welcoming staff, and, of course, the menu.
"We're not messing with the food," he says. "We feel like we built the brand on the food."
With the Fayetteville restaurant looking to open in May, the company is busy preparing training manuals and taking care of the final legal and technical hurdles. Roberts says another location is possible in Columbia, but expansion beyond that will depend on the economy and whether potential franchise owners can get financing to open their doors.
