Latin Night w/the Charleston Jazz Orchestra

When: Sat., Sept. 22 2012

Though the Charleston Jazz Orchestra is only in its fourth season, it continually sells out shows and embraces all styles of jazz, from blues to Afro-Cuban to Latin. And speaking of Latin, this weekend will see the CJO and Jazz Artists of Charleston’s fourth annual Latin Night, featuring special guest and three-time CJO performer Etienne Charles, a trumpeter and percussionist, fourth-generation musician, and Juilliard alumnus native to Trinidad. Charles will be joined by JAC Artistic Director and Conductor Charlton Singleton for a show spotlighting the Afro-Caribbean influence on the Latin jazz community. JAC’s Marcus Amaker promises that the later show will have audience members “getting loose.” Attendees will also be the first to hear Charles perform the world premiere of a commissioned piece inspired by the Lowcountry’s Gullah culture.
