Hailing from County Fife in southeastern Scotland, Little Buddha is shimmering pop band led by whispery vocalist Kat McDonald and bassist Grant Tyrie, touring behind an atmospheric collection of minor-key rock anthems and pop ballads titled Twisted. Three weeks into their first major tour of the States, Little Buddha make a stop at the Village Tavern this week with support from two local guitar-rock bands, Torture Town and The Book of Lies, both of whom specialize in heavier, riffier styles than the headliner. However, with drummer Mark McClenaghan, lead guitarist Rajan Vaid, and keyboardist/guitarist Bryce Sutherland on hand, McDonald and Tyrie seem pretty well-equipped for any domestic club situation. The cinematic and trippy pop on Twisted has already gained great notoriety throughout the U.K. and Europe, so it might just achieve some breakthroughs in North America this summer. The band plays a quick set on Channel 4’s late-morning show Lowcountry Live before heading to the Tavern.
