Lowcountry Field Feast: bunnies, Sidi, and Lata

A marshside meal

Bunnies hopped freely on the grounds of Rosebank Farms while attendees of the Second Annual Lowcountry Field Feast sipped cocktails and listened to The Bushels under the trees on Sunday night. When the dinner bell rang, we all traipsed down the dusty dirt road (or hopped aboard the tractor) towards the house of Louise Bennett and Sidi Limehouse, our garrulous hosts for the evening event.

The weather was perfect for a backyard marshside meal under tents. Chef Mike Lata and his team from FIG sent out platter after platter of family-style courses, starting with swordfish carpaccio and chilled spaghetti squash. When the sun went down and it got a little cool, heaters and roaring fires warmed up diners between courses. The highlight course of the night was the lightly breaded and fried shrimp and fish that just kept coming out in heaping servings. Lata said he acquired 40 pounds of local shrimp and 60 pounds of fish earlier that day.

The evening ended on a high note with the Bushels playing a final set and Sidi dancing a jig with a rowdy crowd of revelers.
