Louis. Duke. Miles. These musicians define jazz music’s history and inspire present day artists — and that’s Armstrong, Ellington, and Davis for those not in the jazz-know. This weekend, Jonathan Butler (pictured), Chuck Loeb, Jeff Lorber, Everett Harp, Dave Koz, Richard Elliot, Geral Albrigh, and Mindi Abair take the stage of the North Charleston Performing Arts Center to show the Lowcountry how jazz has transformed since the early 1900s. “As for the music, jazz lovers will get a nice taste of a variety of styles, from smooth to fusion to modern,” says Tammy Greene, producer of the festival. The weekend will also act as a celebratory memorial for George Duke, who passed away in August. Duke had been scheduled to perform at the festival, so the organizers wish to remember Duke’s love of music and commemorate his life.
