Mad Hatter Garden Tea Party

When: Sat., April 18, 1-4 p.m. 2015

The story of Alice in Wonderland has for decades been an encouragement to kids everywhere to indulge in creative growth and imagination. Not coincidentally, this is the same focus for the upcoming mad hatter tea party organized by First Steps. In leading this family friendly event, First Steps, a cross-county partnership that seeks to improve children’s health and early education progams, aims to raise both funds and awareness for early childhood education. “Most brain development happens between birth and age five,” says Adrienne Troy-Frazier, executive director of Berkeley County First Steps. “Most people forget that.” The reality is, children in South Carolina are often going into Kindergarten under-prepared, and First Steps is trying to change that by providing various programs and workshops in support of both children and parents. This fun, educational event will include rotating stations with activities such as imaginary tea parties, bubble making, art, flamingo crochet, dancing and more, that all exercise important developmental skills for the little ones. In addition to these activities, there will also be a family scavenger hunt, tea time treats such as themed cupcakes and cookies, and a silent auction for items including an overnight stay at the Francis Marion Hotel, a Golfer’s Delight package, and assorted high-end children’s toys. Tickets can be purchased online.
