Marley Lion Music Festival

When: Sun., July 29, 3 p.m. 2012

When 17-year-old Marley Lion was shot and killed during an attempted carjacking on June 16, it took Charleston by surprise. The West Ashley teen was a recent graduate of Academic Magnet High School and was bound for Clemson University in the fall with his best friends John Jamison and Matt Finlayson. Lion may be gone, but he is not forgotten. Jamison and Finlayson have been busy planning a tribute to Lion’s life, which is set for July 29 at James Island County Park. They are calling it the Marley Lion Music Festival, because music was a huge part of Lion’s life. The festival will feature a lineup of family members, musicians, and friends who were close to Lion — including Finlayson and Jamison, Robert Paige, Sarah Cole and the Hawkes, Rohan Shirali, and more. Food from Hubee D’s and Taco Boy will be available for purchase on-site, in addition to other attractions.
