Mary Walker: Myth and Morph

When: Oct. 4-31, 5-8 p.m. 2013

Artist Lese Corrigan’s little gallery may be tucked among the bigger French Quarter galleries, where it’s hard to find anything edgier than a watercolor marsh scene, but location is about all they in common. Corrigan has an eye for quirky, colorful, and downright interesting art that ranges from ink drawings to collage. She’s even got a selection of unframed works on paper that usually go for less than $200. She usually hosts shows every month, and her fall season starts with a show by painter, printmaker, and collage artist Mary Walker. Walker’s collages have an almost Caribbean feel to them, with their bright colors and heavy use of animal and natural imagery. Her paintings explore similar themes with a more muted palette, while her prints often feature line-drawn animals or people. While you’re browsing Walker’s pieces, don’t forget to explore the other nooks and crannies of the gallery, including those above you — there are probably some nice finds on the shelves near the ceiling.
