Mellow Down Easy

When: Wed., June 23 2010

With rave reviews from Rolling Stone, Outlaw, and Vintage Guitar — and praise from the late Johnny Cash and members of Lynyrd Skynyrd — Nashville band Mellow Down Easy must be doing something right. While the group’s overgrown-hippie appearance begs for comparisons to the countless other jam bands of this world, their unexpectedly original style may surprise you. Elements of classic rock and blues blend to create songs with an almost dark undercurrent. Guitarist/vocalist Andrew Adkins, bassist/vocalist Daryl Dasher, and percussionist Sam Huff have been at it since forming in 2001, and they’ve toured the U.S. several times. Clear Channel and college radio stations across the country have caught on to the trio’s sound. The group released their latest album, Cosmisutra (Dualtone) last spring. They perform two shows in East Cooper this week. —Kelly Smith
