This Memorial Day the Charleston Community Band will team up with the Columbia Community Concert Band in Marion Square to honor our veterans. This concert is free, and a part of Piccolo Spoleto. They will begin the concert by observing the National Moment of Silence, followed by Taps. Then there will be familiar patriotic music, from marches, to Broadway show tunes, to movie themes from popular films such as Band of Brothers. These two bands have been playing this concert at Piccolo Spoleto for the past several years, after “[joining] forces and [making] our music one and that much stronger,” says Kate Kiel from the Charleston Community Band. They previously played separate concerts, until they combined in 2008. Veterans in both bands and the audience will be honored during “The Armed Forces Salute” which they play every year. This is sure to be a beautiful and moving Memorial Day event and you won’t want to miss it.
