Monthly Variations

When: Fri., Aug. 20, 8-10 p.m. 2010

Breaking the Wall Productions and Gullah Cuisine are joining together to present Monthly Variations. The two local businesses will host an evening of diversified entertainment with performances in music, comedy, and spoken word. Breaking the Wall Productions is a new theater company whose purpose is to bring contemporary work to Charleston. Gullah Cuisine, known for using different sorts of ingredients to make its unique dishes, is paired with the entertainment to perfectly match the diverse mission for the evening. Acts include DJ Feist-E, John Mackie performing some well-known covers, comedian Lamar D. Sol, the spoken words of Marcus Amaker, and more. “We want to try and find unique talent in the Charleston area, something or someone that you didn’t know was around performing and trying to make their mark,” says co-producer Jeffery Jelks. He hopes it will turn out like an old 1970s show: everything is thrown together, but it works out for an entertaining night. “We want to let the evening dictate the direction,” explains Jelks. Tickets include appetizers and one beer or glass of wine. —Lindsay Paris
