Drive-thru movie theaters are so passé, what with global warming and all. But there’s still something to be said about getting to see a film on a big screen in the great outdoors. And by “great outdoors,” we mean Marion Square. Movies in Marion Square, which is hosted by the City Paper and Southwest Airlines, with help from Cinebarre, is back starting this week. Each week, we’ll pair with a different local organization. The series opens with the family-friendly, Oscar-nominated How to Train Your Dragon, which benefits Earth Force, a national nonprofit youth organization that empowers kids to help solve local environmental problems. You can enjoy food from D’Allesandro’s Pizza, Taco Spot, Hello My Name is BBQ, FreshBerry, Ol’ South Hot Dogs, Black Bean Company, and T&T’s Kettle Korn, plus beer and wine from New Belgium Brewery and Barefoot Wine. The Holy City Bike Co-op will be out collecting old bikes and parts, and there’ll also be a raffle. Stay tuned for screenings of Ghost Bird, Sherlock Holmes, and The Other Guys.
