BLUES RUMBLE AT BOWEN'S
This Sunday, Oct. 21, Gary "Shrimp City Slim" Erwin welcomes a strong lineup of local musicians to the eighth annual Ric Strome Memorial Blues Rumble. Shrimp, Juke Joint Johnny's Blues Band, The James Garner Band, Smoky Weiner & The Hot Links, and the Low Tide Blues Allstars are set to jam and lay down the boogie from 4-8 p.m. in the dockhouse at Bowen's Island Restaurant (1870 Bowen's Island Road). A $10 donation is asked at the door, with plenty of food and beverages for sale. Since 2000, the Lowcountry Blues Relief Fund has provided over $30,000 to needy blues musicians and their families. This week's event is dedicated to beloved local drummer Stevie Kent (known best for his work with the Jumper Cables, The Hot Links, Sea Level, and many others), who is facing serious medical problems this month. Portions of the proceeds shall benefit Kent and his family. For more info, call (843) 762-9125 or visit www.shrimpcityslim.com. —T. Ballard Lesemann
