North Charleston July 4th Celebration

When: Sat., July 4, 3-10 p.m. 2009

Ask any red-blooded American what they love most about their country, and freedom will probably be pretty high up on their list. Ironically, that’s one of our favorite things about some Fourth of July events — the fact that they’re free. It don’t cost a thing to watch the fireworks going off all around the peninsula, and many events around town are quite affordable, but North Charleston seems to be offering the most bang for your nonexistent buck. Pack up the lawn chairs and head to Riverfront Park Saturday for a day of good ol’ family fun. Kicking off with welcoming remarks from Mayor Summey at 3 p.m., the day continues with performances from Charleston Capoeira, Crowfield, the Blue Dogs, and Mary Wilson of the Supremes. There will be plenty of kids’ activities to keep the little ones out of trouble, as well as food and drinks for sale. Cap things off at 9 p.m. with fireworks over the Cooper River.
