O.A.R. w/ Citizen Cope

When: Sat., Aug. 14 2010

Popular groove-rock band O.A.R. is a well-polished music machine. Lead singer/guitarist Marc Roberge, bassist Benj Gershman, guitarist Richard On, drummer Chris Culos, and sax player Jerry DePizzo return to Family Circle Magazine Stadium this Saturday behind the 2008 smash album All Sides, featuring the chart-toppers “This Town” and “Shattered.” Last year, the band launched a “co-write contest” through Twitter, searching for fans to collaborate with the band on a new song. Hundreds of O.A.R. fans submitted their lyrics, 140 characters at a time. The band chose three verses, a chorus, and a bridge for the final arrangement. They extended the contest to have fans title the song. In July they finally released the resulting “Light Switch Sky” as an online single. Proceeds from the sale of the single were donated to the Paralyzed Veterans of America (mission-able.com). The band formed under the name Of a Revolution around the mid-’90s in Rockville, Md., but they officially went pro while attending college at Ohio State University in Columbus. They’re currently working on their seventh studio album. Citizen Cope and his band open the Daniel Island concert at 7 p.m. —T. Ballard Lesemann
