Festivals + Events, Music, City Picks

When: Sat., Oct. 3 2009

Oktoberfest is that one time of the year when we can all pretend to be German for the sake of cheap beer and wenches. The oldest bar in Charleston wants to make your first weekend in October the best weekend in Oktober. The 9th Annual Oktoberfest kicks off Saturday and won’t end until you’re crawling home Monday morning. That’s right — this is the first year the event is extended for the entire weekend.

Your $7 admission fee will benefit the Charleston Animal Society, and once you’re in, the pints will only be $4. Saturday’s live music will have an American flavor with local act Lindsay Holler’s Western Polaroids belting out some soul. Sunday features oompah music from Hanz Schmidt’s German Band along with the King and Queen of Oktoberfest contests, plus plenty of beer and sausage. Claim your (true or false) heritage to the fatherland and take off work — you’ll probably need Monday off, too. —Patrick McGinn
